CIDR‘Classless Inter-Domain Routing’. Method for allocating IPv4 (& IPv6) addresses for routing to help slow the exhaustion of addresses. Encompasses CIDR Notation & VLSM ­— Wikipedia
CIDR NotationShorthand for the ‘subnet mask’
VLSM‘Variable Length Submasking’. Create subnets within subnets, which can be different sizes, so there are fewer unused IP addresses.
